I remember the evening of the 3rd August. The Sergeant came into the house, and walked into the passage behind the sitting room, and had a conversation with Chun Tai, that is to say they spoke together about a minute. Chun Tai is a friend of mine. I do not know where she lives now. She then lived in Temple Street, Yaumati. I do not know the number of the house, it is not a brothel. Chun Tai said the Sergeant was a sweetheart of hers. I suppose a crowd came to see why a policeman had come in. He only had a few words with Chun Tai, and then went out. He did
not speak to any man in the house.
Crossexamined by Sergeant.

I did not notice any Chinese stranger in the house. I was engaged in cutting cigarettes. I did not buy any sweetmeats from a hawker. Chun Tai came into the house about 7 p.m., short time before the Sergeant came in. She did not take her evening meal there. Chun Tai said she had just come from Shaukiwan. I know she had been living in Yaumati, and had only gone. to Shaukiwan one or two days before. I saw the Sergeant and Chun Tai in the passage. I did not hear them talking. The
any. Sergeant did not go into other part of the house. Chun Tai was a prostitute in Singapore. She has no husband. I know she was because I was with her. There was a light in the sitting room
and kitchen. The latter lighted the passage.
Crossexamined by me.The Sergeant went out directly after, and Chun Tai sat down in the sitting room, and soon after went out.
I do not know where Chun Tai is now.
